I use my drawings a personal reflective tool, it’s a way for me to initiate deep thinking and begin to understand both lived and secondary experiences. The drawings are both a retelling of memory and a documentation of my world. My work is a stylised documentation of form. I am interested in the interconnectivity of life and how this relationship is underpinned by chaos, disorder and unpredictability. My work is created with the same approach, there is no grand vision or clear narrative, the process is responsive and nonlinear.
what someone else said…
If you have never met Conor Wickham you would be forgiven for thinking that his art is that of an anthropological savant. The surfaces of his painfully detailed renderings of people, animals and objects, crawl with abstract and representational designs which presumably operate on a stream-of-consciousness level. They guide the audience through a maze of encyclopedic and schizophrenic references to various places, times and activities. One can imagine his hours, days and weeks creating his art are matched with a scouring of textual and photographic documentation of the world around us.
